pros:
- cute (way more than pic shows)
- super portable
- great battery life
- easy to use
- library of shops and gas stations is extensive and pretty accurate

cons:
- doesn't call out street names (i knew this going in, but didn't realize how convenient it is)
- can take over 1 min to connect to a satellite
- wish it'd show "time to get to destination" instead of just "destination time"

overall have no regrets about purchase

Been wondering from does Amazon gets the list price of Nuvi 250 at $ 472.00 ? Any suggestions ? What is this game ?

Customer Buzz
Even densily surrounded by very high buildings sattelites signal were good enough to maintain navigation. I mention this because with other manufacturers I experienced loss of signal many times and with Garmin it did not occur.

The only improvement i'd mention is that the user could have an easier way to add POIs to the device's database.

I am thoroughly satisfied with the Garmin nuvi GPS. It is exactly what I was looking for -- simple to use and at a good price.

Customer Buzz
a lot of people told me Garmin is good GPS so I decide buying it "Garmin 250" but it is not exact direction to show me the location where I want to go. I don't know what happen because sometimes it shows "satellite missing" and doesn't move in the screen. Maybe other models are better.

The latest Nuvi 250 gets a refreshed hardware platform that is similar to the nuvi 205 but the 250 has the added advantage of having Alaska and Canada map coverage. Everything about the interface and usage is exactly the same the 205 except the 250 doesn't get the new eco-route feature that is only available for 2x5 or 7x5 units. Other that that I can't tell the difference between the two. Same familiar & excellent navigation features, loud and clear voice. If you don't need the frills like MP3 player, bluetooth and FM transmitter, then this budget model is the one for you!

Customer Buzz
It doesn't have a lot of bell's and whistles but it does the job it is interned for and does it well.
I am very pleased with my purchase.

Customer Buzz
I love my Garmin GPS it was very easy to use. I will tell a friend about it. Two thumb up.

Customer Buzz
You can't register it w/o downloading a browser plugin. Said plugin won't install. FAQ says you need new drivers. New drivers don't install. Tech support looks for a familiar word in your complaint and emails a cut and paste response based on that one word.

Oh, and the battery is only good for a few minutes.

Customer Buzz
We have a TomTom One and a Nuvi 250. The TomTom is much better! When the Garmin needs to be recharged, it becomes useless. There is a glitch that keeps us from using the Nuvi 250 while it is recharging, whether it is plugged into the wall, the PC, or the car. So, we can use it only when fully charged, and then have to stop using it when it needs to be recharged. Visits to the Garmin website have not resolved the problem. Also, the TomTom allows more customization, such as a choice between an alphabetical or qwerty keyboard. Who uses an alphabetical keyboard? The ability to change a route when there is a need for a detour is another shortcoming of the Garmin. Finally, the cost of upgrades negates what looked like a good price at the outset.

I found this product to be excellent. It picks up satellites quickly and recalculates routes quickly when you decide to go off course. The routes it gave me so far are pretty direct.

It's easy to setup your route.

I'm using the traffic monitoring through MSN Direct, and this is an area which could be improved. I wish it showed traffic conditions (speed traffic is moving) directly on the route screen, instead of having to go to another screen.

The Nuvi nicely paired with my cell phone which was great which was an added bonus. The voice commands worked well.

When using the Nuvi to walk a route, it did take a little time (5 minutes) to get fully oriented to our walk, but that really caused no problems.

While the product could be improved it's really terrific and I highly recommend it.

Remote button on 885T that is required to activate "voice command" worked twice then died. I deleted the remote button from memory and attempted to reinstall but main unit does not see remote again. Tried a battery change but did not fix. Bluetooth also does not work. Main units on/off switch feels to be very cheap quality. Unit is very inaccurate and will show you on the highway while on a far spaced service road and still approaching an intersection when already there. I am having to mail my unit in for repair when needed for a trip. Market seems swamped with "reconditioned" Garmin's for sale. Now I see why. Wish I had kept my money.

Garmin nüvi 885T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with MSN Direct Service
Over all this is a good product, but I was dissapointed about two items. On other GPS's when you get to the point where you would turn, there would be a "Beep or Tone "to let you know where to turn, this is helpfull when there are other intersections close by. Other wise you have to take your eyes off the road to watch the info on the screen. This unit does not have this feature.
The audio level is not loud enough, even at 100%,you can listen to the audio through the car stero which makes it loud enough but then you can't listen to the Radio, which I enjoy on a long trip.

Customer Buzz
I recently purchased the Garmin 885t after having owned the Streetpilot C340. I felt that I wanted an upgrade for a couple of reasons. First, I liked the idea of being able to be more "hands-free" if I needed to make changes to my routes while driving and second I was hoping that the blueooth was good enough that I could also use my phone through the Garmin. The purpose would be to streamline what I need to hook up in my car.

I own an iPhone original and have tried a couple of FM transmitters for hands free calling in the car. Though they worked partially with my phone, none were completely compatible. I was so pleased to see how the Garmin immediately recognized my contacts and they are all up on the Garmin screen. Second, even though the iPhone does not support voice dial, I am able to verbally navigate through the Garmin to make calls. This for me is important so I don't have to fiddle with the phone in my car.

After having used the Garmin for a couple of weeks, I can say that I so far am very satisfied. The Garmin's navigation works as expected and as I was accustomed to with my older Garmin. I do enjoy the lane assist feature, which works well in my area. Be aware, however, that the Junction View does not work with Lane Assist in every area. This is not a problem for me as this is only an "extra whistle" from my perspective.

I am amazed at how it finds popular places and how well it understands voice commands. This function makes entering information so much easier. I also love how you can use Google Maps to directly send favorite places to the Nuvi, as well.

In regards to the Bluetooth, I find that the speakers are better than the nuvi 360 that I tried a year ago. I sent it back because the speaker and sound were awful on it. On the Nuvi 885t, I am able to hear the speakers well but was I was told that there was an echo on their end when I spoke. I purchased Garmin's external microphone and people I talk to now say that it sounds much better. I've talked several times on it with no problems.

The FM transmitter works just fine for me, especially if I am just tooling around town. As a matter of fact, I found a station in my area where the music that I downloaded to my Garmin sounds just like I'm listening to the FM radio. No static at all. I like using the FM option as I like having the ability to listen to my callers and Garmin commands through my car stereo. I will admit that when I travel distances, I will probably opt to use my aux. cable with my iPod due to the fact that the FM stations would change frequently on longer trips (which would be a pain).

I haven't had the chance to experience the MSN direct or the picture viewer (doubt I will ever use that) so I can't comment on those features. I would like to add that customer support at Garmin is wonderful. I had to call a few times with questions and they were extremely helpful, kind, and supportive. (My Garmin was originally shipped in the Russian language).

I have been experimenting with this unit and learning how to use the Garmin in the house while I don't have to concentrate on the road. Though it is user friendly, there is still a lot to learn. I also took it with me even if I knew where I was going to "practice" the features. I'd rather get a handle on how to use it when I know my route. As silly as it sounds, it does help!

Kudos to this unit! NO regrets, even though I felt it was more than what I wanted to pay for a GPS.

Customer Buzz
Over the years, I've owned nine Garmin GPS units. I've used them for sailing, hiking, horseback riding, geocaching, driving a charter bus and limousines, and on my own vehicles. Based on my experience and Garmin's support, I don't even consider any other brand. But I still do my homework before I buy any unit.

My wife and I usually find ourselves deciding to do something or go somewhere while we're already driving, so I thought the voice recognition Nuvi 885T would be a good idea. But I was concerned about reviews stating the unit's volume was too low and the remote didn't fit steering wheels. I also noted the mention of a free map update that wasn't. I telephoned Garmin, and as always, spoke with an American speaking English without an accent. They took the time to explain the volume controls to me and warned that there were two volume controls. They also took the time to measure the opening of the remote so I felt comfortable it would fit on my car. I bought the unit.

The unit worked perfectly right out of the box and I was amazed at how fast it acquired satellites inside my house. The quick start instructions are well written and easy to follow and I soon had the unit connected to the internet and Garmin so its software could be updated, and the map could be updated as well - free. I can also update the map free again if Garmin updates the map within 60 days after the first update. The remote also fit the leather-bound steering wheel on my 2008 Toyota Highlander Sport with room to spare. We found the volume on the unit adequate as long as the radio wasn't turned up too loud.

Then we had fun with the unit. It works as advertised and it solved our problem of inputting destinations while we were driving without leaning forward to touch the screen. The lane assist pictures are awesome, but I wished they would stay on the screen just a little longer (so I could show them off). The roadway speed limits on the screen are great. We even got a traffic alert from MSN without a destination programmed into the unit. The only disappointment I had so far is that Garmin is allowing customers to download its Eco-routing software free, but it's not compatible with the Nuvi 885T - yet.

I wrote a scathing review on the Garmin 785t. A Garmin CSR replaced the original 785t with a new 785t which was worse. In a surprise move, they replaced the second 785t with the 885t. This unit is awesome and I very highly recommend it.

In our family we have a Garmin 250 and a 880. The 885t's voice recognition is superior to the 880. Satellite acquisition is on par with the fastest of my experience and the need for recalculating was recognized within 2 seconds of passing the recommended turn. Graphics are top drawer and in my opinion, well superior to Tom Tom (before buying a Tom Tom, monitor the current suit brought by Microsoft against Tom Tom for OS patent infringement).

I am also pleased at the responsiveness of Garmin's CSR staff. All I did was explain the continuing problems and they spontaneously offered the 885t as a replacement. At a time when customer service is suffering from reduced staff due to budget cuts, Garmin did the right thing here and have won a loyal customer for now.

The nuvi 885t is a cutting edge unit at a fair market price. Will likely retire the 250 in place of a second 885t shortly.

Customer Buzz
My 1st GPS "experience" occurred a couple weeks ago when I drove a friend down to Long Island and he brought his Garmin Nuvi along for the trip. Prior to this I had never given much thought to the whole GPS thing. I mean, I'm a guy, I don't need directions, right? True. But a GPS makes driving so much more fun and interactive. It's like going from automatic to manual transmission. You're not just driving anymore. . . You're navigating. So I started researching the whole GPS thing. I even found out that civilian GPS got the green light from Reagan due to the Soviets downing a commercial 747 flight way back in 1983. OCD, I was obsessed with GPS. I had to have one. So I got the nuvi 885t.

This thing rocks really hard. Seriously, my car is like KITT from Knight Rider now. The voice recognition is out of this world. I love it. I was worried cause I was reading alot of reviews saying that the FM transmitter sucks, however, I find that it works great for me. One mans garbage is another mans fortune. That, coupled with voice recognition, is really fun. Just press the remote, say "music player" then "Bob Dylan" then "Desolation Row" and low and behold, you're jammin. Lots of fun. And since you don't have to look at the screen or touch it, you can do this while driving and making turns and stuff. All you safety conscious parents will love this. I'm not that concerned about safety yet, but maybe it'll impress the chicks and one day I'll be captain safety too. I just like it cause it's fun to use. The only thing that sucks is that songs are only separated by artist, not album. I like listening to albums. An album is a work of art by the artist and it's more than just a collection of songs. It transcends that. It tells a story. On the Nuvi, all the songs by an artist are just lumped together alphabetically. That's like throwing a stone at a beautiful stained glass window. It shatters the greater artistic masterpiece, leaving behind a scattered mess of pretty shards of broken glass. Maybe a software update can change this. Still, it's a minor compliant. Plus, if you got a song in your head that you wanna hear, just go to that artist and say the song name. Ok, what else? Unfortunately the MSN direct doesn't seem to work in my area. Maybe if you live close to a city you'll get some mileage out of it. Oh well, I'm sure it will kick in if I travel down to NYC or Boston, etc. I'll take a drive down the NYS thruway soon and try it out. I wanna see how the lane assist and junction view works too. Overall, I find everything works really well for me, even the FM transmitter and bluetooth. But the speech recognition is something that has to be tried to be believed. My car is KITT!!! Well, that's it for this review. I highly recommend the Nuvi 885t. Time to "find nearest taco bell."

EDIT: My bad, I was just playing with the Nuvi 885t and you can in fact search for songs in the music player by album. Sorry for any confusion my review my have caused.

Customer Buzz
I've had my 885T for about a week and a half. For the most part I like it and it has been useful. It has already made a few trips to unfamiliar spots in the city much less stressful and faster. It has its shortcomings though.

PROS: MSN Traffic service works well in Denver Metro area. Movie times seem accurate (I'm considering paying the one time fee). Slim size. Lane assist blew me away - how cool is that! Has been 99% accurate. Voice commands work really well even in noisy vehicle and allow for safer operation while driving. Voice command remote is unobtrusive and feels sturdy. Easily upload maps to unit directly from Google.

CONS: Suction cup mount falls often even on flat Jeep windshield (I'll end up using the disc sticky mounts). My Samsung Alias phone is not specifically supported for Bluetooth - seriously it's one of the most popular phones. Subsequently bluetooth connectivity has been frustrating and inconsistent. Speakers will probably suffice for a quiet ride but I'm in a Jeep with 32" mudders. FM transmitter (to hear voice prompts over sound system in your car) is worthless. New map update was nearly 2G and took a day and a half to download on DSL.

All in all I expected a little more functional quality for the price but I'd still recommend it to a friend that loves tech stuff but would recommend a cheaper model to someone who just wants a good GPS.

Customer Buzz
Excellent features and very good GPS. It gets a satellite lock inside my house!!! The voice recognition is the gem in this thing. It really works and once you start using it, it is very useful and functional. You don't have to push buttons.

Positives: Voice recognitions, lots of POIs, on-line sites like POI-Factory to add custom POIs (easy to do), and a very good set of features. I have tried (it works) but not extensively used the bluetooth hands free and mp3 player yet (8GB microSD card ordered) but I think it will be useful. MSN Direct is the way to go and works very well. I am getting helpful traffic updates in Louisville.

Negatives: I have to say the volume on the unit should be higher. I realize the FM radio option is there, but sometimes you are listening to the radio or a CD and it is hard to hear the Garmin. On a trip do they expect you to only listen to the Garmin? I figure if I use the mp3 option on an FM channel that maybe that is a way around the CD because I assume it will give voice prompts through the music audio (have not tried). Also the few hands-free calls I have taken have given very poor sound on the Garmin speakers making it not useful (maybe a software update? Not sure they are using the A2DP or a good profile.). They must fixe these two issues. They should already have this perfected. One other small potential issue. The band for the voice recognition button barely fits my steering wheel (last notch), on some others that are larger it could be an issue (but I think this may be minor)?

I will post more as I use it. I should give it 4 starts because of the sound issues. I will come back and re-review as I use it. It is worth buying. My brother and siter have Tom-Tom and another Garmin (780) and this is definitely better. The voice command and satellite lock really distinguishes it. When you are driving you don't want to have to reach and push buttons on it. Garmin, please improve the audio ASAP.

Completely satisfied with the Garmin nuvi 750. Unit does all I need it to do and is very user friendly. Other family members have purchased this unit after using mine. A good value!

Customer Buzz
Haven't yet tried it on an unknown stretch of highway, but did travel to CA Bay Area and loved the way it always had me in the correct lanes well ahead of freeway changes - Bay is infamous for leaving highways from the left as well as the right and even though I've made the same trip a couple of times a year for the past umpteen years, my stress level was reduced 95% just to know for sure about the next change.

I've currently no need of blue tooth capabilities, so I think I purchased the right one for me. The "announcer" doesn't always know the correct pronunciation of a street name, but it's close enough and clearly spoken.

I'd have given this unit the maximum number of stars except that it doesn't come with a complete manual. You must download from the manufacturer and one, my computer wasn't capable of getting that far into pdf files and two, I'd want it printed out, not saved to computer or disc, and I'd not want to waste the money on ink and paper.

We just completed a 3500 mile trip from our home in upstate New York down I-95 and all over Florida. This device was great. We used it to find lodging for the night. Look up what was at our stop point, pick a unit , call while on the road and make reservation. We used it to find golf courses, restaurants and many places to visit. Glad we bought it.

I highly recommend the NUVI line of GPS to all drivers.

I read many reviews on this model before I purchased it. I was concerned about some of the poor reviews, but I have not experienced any of the issues the other reviews stated. I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. I would recommend this to my friends and family.

An excellent product. Improved visibility of the screen because of brightness. The previous arrow pointing North is not on the screen anymore, which is the opposite of an improvement. There are too many menus to drill through, and some settings are not retained after the unit is turned off.

The recommended add-on of a plastic anti-reflection sheet causes patterns to appear (moire type) when I am wearing polarized sunglasses.

I took my brand new Nuvi 750 on a ten hour round trip between upstate NY to Cleveland, OH. During that trip, the unit froze up nine times and had to be restarted each time using the sliding power switch. I was disappointed, but remained hopeful Garmin tech support could help solve the problem and get the unit working reliably. My first email to them yielded a canned suggestion to download and install the available software update using their online updater. I did that, got the unit started again, and my very first attempt to plan a route resulted in a complete, unbreakable freeze. The display just hung on one image and not even the power switch could break it loose. I ended up having to pack it back up with the image still being displayed. My followup email to tech support went unanswered for a good 24 hours, by which time I had already gone ahead and shipped it back for a refund. The best I can say for the whole experience is that Amazon could not have been better about the return. They processed it quickly and refunded everything, including the overnight shipping I had paid for when I ordered the Garmin. Bottom line: the Garmin Nuvi 750 was unreliable and disappointing, but Amazon minimized the pain of a bad purchase as much as could be hoped for.

Customer Buzz
I did my homework before I bought and it paid off. This gadget even exceeded my expectations because even though I knew it had a POI (points of interest) function I didn't realize how handy this was until my first long trip. Being able to pull up the nearest hotels, gas stations, and restaurants that are ahead of you while traveling along the interstate is great. The 750 comes loaded with so many POI's that I have yet to find anything missing. Be sure and read the manual(on-line, full version)at the Garmin website and play with it at home extensively before using on a trip and you will be rewarded. I've had no problems except for the fact that ocasionally after a boot up it will not begin the text to speech function and I have to go to the language page and re-enter the voice selection, but it's only happened a couple of times and the fix is simple enough. Of course the service from Amazon was great as usual.

I've had this for 6 months, and I must say I like it! I've owned Tom Tom's, mio's, used a magellan and won't go back! The screen is excellent, nice size, very quick satellite acquisition, and the best routing by far (the main reason we buy these, right?).

I always thought 4.3 screens were unnecessary, but its so nice when you are turning to see more of the map in the direction you are turning!

Also, I believe the Garmin's are the only GPS's that tell you which side of the street your destination is one, AND usually routes you so that its on your right side. When you are in a city you don't know, this is a must-have feature in my opinion.

Also, POIs are very good, only occasionally does it not find the store I'm looking for.

The other thing I wanted to add was that I was frustrated finding a case that was slim, pocketable, inexpensive, and fits this like a glove. I was psyched to finally find something at Staples that fits it perfectly (for $7 no less). Check out the Case Logic JDS-6 usb shuttle. I know this isn't listed as a gps case, but it works perfectly for this unit.

Also consider getting a vent mount for this, its so nice to have the gps right at your fingertips instead of reaching forward to the windshield.

I have an older Garmin V that I have used for about 7 years. The old Garmin is great for driving around provided you plan ahead and update the maps to show where you're traveling. If you forget, you miss critical detail and you'd better have good local maps. I still have that unit and use it mostly in the woods due to its limited memory.

So on a recent trip to Sacramento, I decided to upgrade to a newer unit that had more memory. The 205W worked so well out of the box I was a little disappointed. The tech on these is so simple now it's almost 'boring' to use. It navigated rapidly and accurately and provided clear directions within minutes. Most amazing to me was how well it picked up satellites compared to the Garmin V. Extremely fast and even worked resting in the space between the seats of our rental car. Pretty cool.

I'm not sure you can go wrong with the 205W. I've been a GPS geek for about 10 years and we use them at work.

The 205W is intuitive enough for most folks to use right out of the box and the routing is good. By 'good', I mean it's fast and accurate. If you accidentally drive by something it quickly recalculates a route for you.

The screen is nice and bright too, even in daylight. It is wise to bring along the supplied 12 volt cigarette lighter plug as it seems to last for very short times on battery alone and there is no way to replace the battery or bring along a spare. Fortunately, you can charge it off a mini-usb port from your computer too so it's not a big issue but if you're the forgetful sort, perhaps a replaceable battery model is better for you.

This is not a unit you'd really use in the back-country. It's designed for highway use and works great for that. There are other more costly units that more effectively marry the needs of sportsman and the occasional traveler.

It does nicely link up with Google Earth via your computer (you'll need to latest free version of Google Earth). It does not appear to provide a real-time GPS position signal to your computer (my 7 year old Garmin V does though) so if you're looking for that capability this doesn't appear to be a solution for that specific problem. However, if you are traveling and wish to save the addresses / places that you visited it easily imports that information and it's pretty cool to see those points overlaid on Google Earth.

You can add an SD card and put photos and stuff on it like you might on a USB memory stick but I don't think many people use that sort of capability.

You can easily download different icons to show your position. I downloaded the tank. The tank rules. It's a gimmick but it shows the folks at Garmin have a sense of humor.

You can view your route in the traditional overhead routing or 3D; both work really well.

The provided suction cup mount works very well. It uses a ball mount that allows for infinite positioning. If you want a really rugged mount I'd strongly recommend the Ram-Mount systems available online. I bought one for my ATV and it's amazingly stout and simple. I digress.

If your primary need for a GPS is a very simple, plain and effective unit for over the road travel, this will exceed your needs and your expectations in an easy to use package.

I received this unit as a gift for the 08 holidays, at the time it was priced at one seventy five plus shipping, now at one sixty with free shipping it is a better deal than ever.

I wouldn't recommend choosing the 255w over this. it's not worth the forty dollar difference for only text-to-speech and no other features.

It turns on and finds locations very fast, the menu is not blazing responsive but gets the job done, and it has a good amount of POI's. Unit is sleek and the window mount is sturdy. It does fairly well at giving directions in the city, but it will on occasion try to lead you into a 1 way street from the wrong end or not be specific enough with finding smaller places that are "a hole in the wall." Hopefully your common sense will prevail. :) Fortunately, it reroutes very fast.

This unit is great, unless you plan extensive traveling in europe. Don't pay for bluetooth connectivity in a gps, the sound quality is never that great compared to more affordable standalone hardware. Not sure if the 265w is worth it, although the traffic service is nice. This unit does a great job of predicting arrival times regardless.

For the price and features, with the almight garmin to back it up, this unit can't be beat. No regrets here.

For the money, this is a GREAT gadget!! It actually has more and does more than I'd bargained for!! The ONLY drawback .. I THOUGHT it would name the streets. It doesn't and that gets confusing when it tells you to turn left (or right) and there are more than 2 options!!! The wide screen is fantastic. Very easy to see day or night. I have used Garmin GPS units in my job for a number of years and they always come through for me. They are pretty user friendly, which is what I want/need!! I have been wanting to get a portable, highway type GPS for my vehicle for several years but didn't want to pay the price. Nowadays, it's not so easy to stop at a gas station and ask directions ... no one knows where anything is, anyway!! I love watching how the speed limit changes on the screen as I drive past a new speed limit sign. It's almost magic!! I am very happy with my Garmin portable navigation system! (One review I read was very helpful in that the author stated the auto converter DOES come with the unit!!)

I received this unit as a Christmas gift just before leaving on a family Christmas roadtrip. (4400 miles, 11 states, 18 days). Because we opened gifts right before walking out the door, I waited until the next morning to get the unit out and figure it out. While the rest of the family packed up in the motel, my 9 year old son and I wen to gas up the Suburban, before I got to the gas station, my son had it set up and navigating. As I gassed up I set the motel as our destination and it navigated the convoluted route effortlessly.

Over the course of the trip I was amazed at how well this Unit worked and how easy it was to use. There were a couple of instances where streets had changed and the maps were not updated (changes were 4 years ago) nothing we couldn't handle. Also, we found motels and fast food places that were not in the Garmin's system. It worked through mountains, deserts, plains, urban areas (Las Vegas, Salt Lake City), and desolate areas (Extraterestrial Highway in Northern NV). Worked great on the whole trip...hardly looked at my road atlas. (my wife would call that miraculous!!)

This is my first GPS. It cost about $125. It did everything asked of it. Really a great low cost unit. Sound is good, touch screeen works well and it can be set either for shortest distance or fastest route. A drag and drop route modification would be great, but I assume that is available in a higher end model.

It doesn't do bluetooth or MP3s or play through the car radio....but I don't need or want those features.

I would like to update the maps, but looks like that costs as much as the unit cost originally!!

I still give it 4 stars. I wold have given it 5 stars, but it is my first GPS and not much to compare it to.

I bought this as an addition to my Vista. Which is a great handheld GPS, but a small screen for in the car. The nuvi is a very good automobile GPS. It is easy to use, with a nice display and sound.

The picture viewer is very poor. It is slow and doesn't use the whole height, so the pictures are small.

It also doesn't allow you to save routes. Plenty of storage room to allow it so I am not sure why you can't. Makes it a pain if you don't like the selected route. You have to set it up everytime. This is why I didn't rate it 5 stars.

I found the price for the GPS to be competitive and the product has met all of our expectations. The delivery time was very responsive and we will use Amazon again for our purchases.

I am very happy with the Garmin nuvi 205W. I recently went on a 2500 mile trip and the nuvi performed flawlessly. It relieved all the stress and pressure about being in the appropriate lane when approaching a designated turn and for finding out of the way locations. I don't know how I did without this valuable tool for so long. I reccomend this product without reservation. Completely satisfied. Thank you Garmin.

This is basically a good product with some room for improvment. It's basically an overall good unit.

Garmin nüvi 755T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator
I am 6 month owner of the 755t and very impressed by the features. Not to re-hash everybody's comments, I would like to offer my own:
Pluses:
-Garmin offers a one-time price for map refreshes (up to 4 times a year) for the life of your Garmin Nuvi 7X5T.
-I drive from Charlotte, NC to the NY area frequently and the speed limit indicator in the lower left corner of the screen has allowed me to be aware of limit changes especially when I miss a sign. This has helped me avoid speed traps especially when there is a drastic decrease in the speed limit.
Minuses:
-The navigation options (such as avoid highways, ferries etc) are too simple for an expensive, high end GPS. I would recommend to GARMIN software engineers to use Microsoft Street and Trips as an example to allow for a VARIABLE preference for the road types (limit access highways, tollroads, streets, etc). The 755T constantly routes me onto streets (when I want to avoid traffic lights and local traffic) even if the highway is a faster route!

Hope this helps
WMH

I purchased this unit to replace my stolen 200 series Garmin. I chose this one because of the FM traffic included for life and the lack of bluetooth. I have an iPhone and the only thing the bluetooth is good for is a wireless handset and caller id. Those features weren't enough for me to spend $100 more.

The traffic assist is a must have. Not only does it give you the pretty picture you see in the description, it also shows at all times how many lanes there are on the freeway, and which lane you'll need to be in for your next turn. The unit is a little more sluggish than my older unit, I suspect that's because of the demands of the software; however it's not a serious problem. The FM traffic is o.k. at best. There are times it's dead on as far as the traffic, but the timed delays are not accurate (it'll claim a 1 minute delay but it may be 5). It also reports traffic problems that don't exist, and other's it totally misses. Most likely this is a problem with the FM reporting system and not the unit itself.

The picture is great, directions are good and the unit is solid. It does have a cradle to latch in the unit unlike some less expensive units. That is money well spent as far as ease of use goes. Also, it's very customizable and as user friendly as the units get.

Prior to this unit I had a Street Pilot C550 that cost a little more than twice what this unit did. It lived a good long life before getting injured in a car accident; it had been places from Syracuse to San Jose with me.

I picked this unit up and to me it is pretty much the same thing with a wider screen, a little more speed, no bluetooth, and a little less depth. It could just be me but I think it pronounces names a little bit better. It definitely calculates routes and draws the maps a lot faster which I like. I also like the posted speed and upcoming turn being on the screen. I live in a rural area so I haven't been in a situation yet to take advantage of the traffic, junction view, or even the 3D buildings for that matter; but I figure it can't hurt to have it in there in case I do end up someplace where that stuff is implemented. My C550 had bluetooth and I know I won't miss it.

In the end I like this unit but am unsure if it is a good thing or not that it is so much like my old C550. I guess the base tech has been there for years and they just add a little more processing power and some frilly extras like junction view and 3d building stuff on top to sell devices. The only question is will you be able to actually take advantage of it or not. In my case I have never seen any of it other than the increase in routing and map drawing speed but I was still willing to pay for the other stuff so it is there in the event that it can be used someday.

Customer Buzz
After two months' use in the Boston, Washington DC, and Portland (OR) metropolitan areas, and also on O'ahu, I now feel qualified to review this product. I'm both delighted and disappointed by the nüvi 755T. I chose this model because it combined the set of functions in which I was interested, and I'll discuss its different functions in turn.

Basic navigation functions
I've not had much first-hand experience with auto GPS units since the first generation Hertz "NeverLost" model, so I'm not able to compare the nüvi with current competitors. However, I'm very impressed with the speed and spatial precision of this unit. Even long and complicated routings are typically computed in less than ten seconds. Adaptations because of route variations are detected quickly and a revised route is computed speedily. I will pass a speed limit sign and within no more than one or two seconds the changed speed limit will usually appear on the screen. And I'm impressed, too, with how the unit automatically scales the map to a level appropriate for current navigation purposes.

Problems with basic navigation are few. The most serious one encountered so far happened only in Portland (OR), and so it may relate to the quality of the mapping there. The unit pinpoints the vehicle's starting position within a rectangular grid of streets absolutely correctly, but when I then request a routing the unit sometimes tells me to "drive to the highlighted route" starting several blocks away from my current position (sometimes even off the current map). Yet it has no difficulty navigating me back correctly through the same grid all the way to the starting point.

I have also experienced some variability between cities in what are regarded as network decision point nodes meriting the provision of route guidance there. On the Washington DC highway system, for example, merges and splits that in Boston would have been treated as decision points are not identified in the same way.

One other improvement to "basic navigation" would be valuable. At the highest levels of map magnification, it would be very useful to have arrows showing the directions of one-way streets.

Street name pronunciation
The unit comes with a wide array of voices, languages, and national shades of English. I'm impressed with the capabilities of the name pronunciation feature; it works pretty well most of the time, and given the idiosyncrasies of the English language that's quite an achievement. It struggles, of course, with unfamiliar word structures (such as Hawai'ian names) or non-standard pronunciations (e.g., "Van-cow-ver"), but there are a few more mundane peculiarities. In Washington DC, where a compass quadrant designation follows many street names, the "St." is invariably taken to mean "Saint." "Rt." for "route" gets pronounced as "artee." The most amusing and ingenious muddle so far has been "Ames St.," which the unit interpreted as "American English Street."

Lane assist
I live in a state (Massachusetts) where the highway department's motto appears to be "Never give a sucker any advance notification of the lane he needs to be in," so Garmin's "Lane assist" feature was a strong attraction to choosing this model. But as of now, it is the most disappointing feature. First, only certain areas currently have this capability, and (unlike the real-time traffic information) I have been unable to find on the Garmin website any indications of just where it is available. It appears to be available in the Boston and Portland areas, for example, but I saw no evidence of it in the Washington DC and Honolulu areas. Secondly, it appears to be currently primarily available on the Interstate system (where the standards of highway signage are relatively good), whereas it would be of much greater value to drivers in dense urban core areas (e.g., lane guidance for Dupont and Washington Circles and the Potomac bridges in Washington DC). But it isn't clear to me whether the Navteq maps used by Garmin even have the basic lane detail to allow such guidance to be feasible eventually, even with a significant expansion of the geographical coverage for "Lane assist."

Free real-time traffic information
This was another strong attraction to me of this model. I concur with other reviewers who have opined that the advertising that allows the information to be accessed without a subscription charge is not at all a distraction (it's small, and appears only at the end of a trip or when the vehicle is stationary). But I haven't experienced congested conditions often enough yet to form strong opinions about its efficacy. In the Boston area I've experienced slow moving highway traffic a number of times (an amber traffic symbol on the screen, along with an estimate of the traffic delay minutes) and have occasionally noted that the system's information was not very current, but up to now I haven't experienced a high enough congestion level for the system to generate an alternate routing.

In overview, I'm very pleased with this model and glad that I bought it (particularly at a Thanksgiving weekend 43% discount from MSRP), but I would caution purchasers not to expect too much from either "Lane assist" or Navteq FM traffic at this stage of their development.

This is the second GPS I have owned. I upgraded from a Garmin C330 which had about 2000miles. So far I have placed about 500miles on the 755t. Nothing to complain about, everything works as advertise. Very easy to use. Much easier than a TomTom.

The traffic report is a neat new feature. As I'm driving, a little pop up will automatically show up telling me the current delay. The most I ever got was a 2sec delay. The road on the screen will also change color. I had yellow when I was receiving my 2sec delay.

I also like how the speed limits are displayed on the bottom right corner. They are pretty accurate in my area.

So far the lane assist only works on highways and on certain exits, its nothing special. I thought the lane assist would be more interactive. The image you see at the top of this page that display the lane assist is pretty much all you see when the lane assist pops up. I was hoping for something more or something else.

This is great upgrade from my C330 but a little on the expensive side. I bought this model mainly because I wanted the lifetime traffic and the lane assist.

Pros
-Easy to use
-Traffic report
-4.3" screen

Cons
-Price
-Lane assist is so so....

I originally had wanted to purchase another Garmin model on closeout, however it was no longer available which turned out to be a plus, since on examination of this latest series of Garmin Navigators, the new units had lane change notification and traffic alert that didn't require a subscription, thereby although initial cost was a little more it actually is less costly to operate with more features. Amazon.com offered competetive pricing and I would'nt hesitate to recommend purchase from them!

My name is the Computer Genius I wrote a long review under ellen's ross name. Well I puchased another one and I have confirmed the quality has truly gone down since the Nuvi 660.

If you are a first time user or not have had much experience with Gps you might think it's amamzing. and if you do keep it. there is nothing wrong with the unit for the everyday user.

This is what I found under software version 2.30 the map redraws were fast but it did have a shut down issue. I updated my software to 3.0 and installed new maps now the redraws are slow (just like my other 755t)

Another anoying thing to me was when I was going out of a parking lot it would say continue on commerical blvd. (the parking lot) wouldn't let me get on commerical. so I had to take another street the unit did not guide me from where I was. As a matter of fact I had Nuvi 660 next to me with the older software and maps and that guided me.

Another problem I had with this unit (both of them) was Let's say I was going from point A to B but I had to stop in the middle to go to the bathroom. I'd turn off the engine, get back into the car and it would say continue from (the street where point A was) even though I was in between point A and B. I will admit that it did correct it's self. but with my Nuvi 660 this was never an issue.

I truly don't know what to say anymore execpt that I am totally frustrated. Magallens freeze up all the time and Garmin has software issues. Most things made in the olden days were made much better today everything is made like garbage. The most realistic approach for me is to keep the 660 and forget about this one. However this one does have much more features. So it will be a hard decision. The question I have to ask myself can I and do I want to live with the flaws and hopefully Garmin will improove the software or live with the old oneand have less features. (and don't update it) Thats a question I have to ask myself.

After road triles:
The good, well designed product, easy to use, and it is portable.
The bad, the unit will direct you into an amphibious crossing of a lake in some urban areas of California. It will also direct you into someone's drive way as apposed to a rural road. Caution, it will tell you to turn on to a faster route that will take you off the freeway and onto city streets with stop light and traffic.

This was a great purchase. Not being a technocrat, I found this device to be easy to use and am 100% pleased with the performance. Map detail is great, lane change and verbal prompts are terrific features. This is my first purchase of a GPS but I would certainly recommend this product to all my friends.

As a first time owner of ANY GPS system, I think I purchased the best...pricier than others, but VERY satisfied with it. Days after it was delivered I used it for a trip from Maryland to Florida....it was very helpful....since using it, I have emailed the support group at Garmin several times asking for assistance, and they were very prompt and helpful......the online Users Manual only hits on a few of the things that this syteme can do....in particular, on the trip south I wished that the rest stops on major highways were shown on the map....later, I emailed garmin support and they told me how to find them....All in all, I am extremely pleased.
