Very excellent product. Quick calculation, very nice bluetooth service.

When you buy it, make sure you register it in Garmin website because you are granted one free update for either US or Europe Maps. Also, check your device for software updates (Free). Remember, the map update is free for a limited period of time. Don't miss it, or you will lose the free update.

I highly recommend this product especially when it has the ability to operate all over the world.

Larger screen and bluetooth capability are great new features, as is the capacity for both North America and Europe maps for travelers like me, especially given the cumbersome and restrictive nature of Garmin's MapSource map loading software. However, I'm greatly disappointed in the lack of performance (POI search time, satellite aquisition) compared to my Nuvi 350. The bluetooth capability is nice and (usually) works well with my iPhone, but I (and a colleague who also uses a 700 series) find that the 770 sometimes won't detect my blue tooth device, even though the day prior everything worked fine - Discouraging when you come to rely on this device as your hands-free mobile calling device (and a reason you paid this much for it). The speakers are better than the nuvi 350, but both systems (that I have) have problems with the audio shorting out; and this seems to happen shortly after the warranty expires. While not specific to the 770, I'm experiencing even more misrouting with the current NAVTEQ map version, and many POIs locations are anywhere from a block to a mile and a half away from where the map routing indicates - which almost defeats the purpose in urban areas. Frustrating is the way the routing will prompt you to turn off of a road only to route you in a circle back to where you turned off and back on to the original road and in the direction of original travel. It's almost as if there are "virtual map sheets" that are just barely misalligned such that the routing thinks the roads don't actually connect.I bought this when it first came out, and must say it was not worth the price due to the mentioned detractors. However, as of this review, I see Amazon offering it for about 60% less than I paid almost a year ago, which makes this a better buy for the features. Finally I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that not including a case and other nominal accessories (like what what was included in the nuvi 350) is tacky, especially considering that original customers paid around $700 for this thing.

The equipment is all it was promissed, but....one only very frustrating thing: The bluethoot does not work. And it is not a software fault, but a hardware problem.
Since to send the equipment back to factory (or to send it back to the vendor even when the original packing is not longer available) is, to say the least, troublesome from Buenos Aires, I am driving with a sofisticated, brand new, crippled piece of equipment.
Thank you very much. ALBERTO BATTISTA

This is our first GPS, and WE LOVE IT. I bought it because we're about to be moved across the country (and from a small town to a bigger city) and knew this would greatly benefit us in our house hunting, etc. We haven't even made our first trip to the new area yet, but we've been playing with it (on a recent trip to visit family), and it is SO helpful, even with us already knowing the way there. We looked up restaurants in the area, used the phone number given to make reservations, and there was no waiting once we got there. I can tell this is something we'll always want to have now that we have one.

I bought this particular Garmin based mostly on reviews here and on its features (we thought the loaded European maps would be nice on our next vacation there). In the end, I realized we'd be fighting over the lone GPS once we got to our new locale, so I bought another (not this one--I got the 750 as our 2nd one because I found a fabulous price on it AND because its very similar to the 770, which we already knew we liked).

I don't think you can go wrong with this (or 700 series) GPS. Very easy to operate and understand. I also bought the Garmin friction mount to go along with it for ease of portability between vehicles (before I decided to buy the 2nd unit). It works great too (and ordered a 2nd of it as well).

My only "complaint" is that I wish it came with at least a token case--anything to help keep the screen from getting scratched or smudged when carrying it in-and-out of the car, etc.

good GPS, i was always happy with garmin products. The only annoying thing i find is that i don't have the possibility to snooze the beeper telling me i am speeding in a "mobile" radar zone..

I have been using GPS systems for over 10 years and this is a great unit. My only complaint...no documentation on the operation of this unit! What's up with that Garmin??? I did not buy a used or refurbished unit, no excuse for this oversight!

The hardware is solid and functional, yet slim. The software is user-friendly and does what most users would expect. The satellite receiver works well and provides a quick fix, so to speak. The FM transmitter works well too. Overall, I do not have qualms about the purchase.

Second Nuvi and still think they are great. This one even easier to use than the first. I cannot believe that automakers are charging 6 times this for the built in system that does half as much and is twice as hard to use.

I bought this item end of 2008 at Amazon.com and I'm delighted with the product. It works very well, is precise and saved me already many minutes in google and mapquest to print maps and directions. It has a fair amount of points of interest also in my area and the bluetooth feature works just great. I'm amazed about the ease of use of the entire software, very clear and understandable. As all radio frequency based products, I wish I could find a fix frequency that is allways free of noises, but this is only a little sacrifice v/s all the benefits I have. I can strongly recommend this unit to all who use bluetooth and need the Europe map when travelling.

We still like our 4 year old Garmin IQ3600, but had started looking for a replacement because it started locking up at inconvenient times. I didn't think the newer models would be as portable (the IQ is actually a modified Palm Pilot and fits easily in a pocket) but after checking Consumer Reports we determined that the thinnest of the current generation units are still the Garmins. I took advantage of a fantastic post-Christmas discount and bought a new 770 for <$300 (without the great discount I would not have paid extra for the Euro maps which we may never use). It's only a smidgen larger than the IQ which means that it still fits in a pocket. Nice! Here's what I'm really pleased with so far: 1)Great satellite sensitivity. Compared with the IQ, it is acquires quickly and can even get a fix in the house. I suspect that reviewers who complain about this either have never had another GPS or they somehow have a bad unit. 2)Voicing street names etc. is a nice improvement. 3)It gives more useful detail about left versus right exits. 4)Searching points of interest is dramatically faster. 5)The interface is good but not perfect. Some things are very easy -- e.g. to navigate home requires only a few quick presses. 6)Simple USB connection to computer -- this is a breeze compared with fooling around with the Palm Pilot replication on the IQ. BTW, I had no trouble updating the firmware. 7)I think the traffic capability is nice but I don't think I've used it enough yet to know how useful it really is.
Things I don't like: 1)The interface could use one handy button which returns you immediately to the navigation map. The "back button" almost gets you there if you hold it, but I've had some trouble with this. 2) I liked the full information header on the IQ display which included current speed. I've had rental cars with miscalibrated speedometers and I had gotten used to checking my speed by glancing at the IQ. I don't see any option to include this on the 770 nav screen, just the trip data.
On balance I'm very pleased with my purchase and if you can find this model for a good price grab it!
