This GPS works great for the most part. I have had it dump on me a couple of times, (just shut down at a critical moment), and I have not been able to download the latest maps from the Garmin site (they have agreed to send me the CD when it comes out in a couple of months). Sometimes when I am driving on county roads, the road will simply vanish and show me in the middle of nowhere.
My main problem is the Customer Service and Technical Department. When you call in you can expect to wait a minimum of thirty minutes. It seems like rudeness is a prerequisit to work there, and it appears as though they have their own special training course for it, especially the operators. Each time I would speak with them, I felt like I was intruding on their day and this was a complete inconvience for them. As I explained to one of them, they are getting paid to sit there and address my problems; I am simply using my free time.
I really don't know which company would have the best customer service, if any, but be assured, I will do my homework before my next GPS purchase. The best thing would be to have a GPS made so well that there would never be a need to contact the Customer Service. Evidently, this is not the case with Garmin, they can't keep-up with the problem calls.

I have been using this for about 4 weeks and I like the unit a lot. It is nice and easy to read (w/o reading glasses-I'm over 45).
The Bluetooth works just OK. The speaker is hard for me to hear people real clearly and they mentioned they have a hard time hearing me unless I talk loudly. I have put it through the radio and then it seems no problem with either. Wish I didn't have to try to quickly change the radio station when a call come in.
The vocal directions when traveling through an unknown city seems a bit slower than it should be. There are times it is telling me I need to turn but I have passed the exit already, so I missed a couple turns, during a high traffic situation at highway speeds.
I traveled from WI to TX and it wanted me to take another highway not the freeway (I35) which I was not too comfortable doing. So it kept trying to get me to go back until I proceeded beyond a certain point.
The lack of instructions is very irritating to me, since I want to learn about all the features it may have. Still not sure how to do things it is capable of doing as I spent a lot of time just doing some other basic things. For the money 'Garmin' should include "in depth" instructions.
I have been pleased with the many abilities it does have and glad I bought this model. It was worth the extra money.

This is a great help to prevent getting lost.
PROS: My favorite part is the millions of POI, which you can search for by just typing in a name (instead of having to know what it would be under, like in some other models). It provides clear directions in voice and on screen. The blue tooth works well & pairs easily with my blackberry flip phone, automatically connecting when I turn the gps on. The unti is small enough for carrying around, but has a big enough screen for viewing the maos well & feels soft, with a responsive touch screen.
CONS: The free traffic works, but is not great. It just gives you a yellow/green/red car symbol (and only in some areas), and then you have to click on it and select a traffic map, and further play with it, which is just not practical while driving. It does have a lane-assist feature, although this only works in some areas, and may not warn you of lane stuff early enough in some high busy areas when you have lots of turns.
SUMMARY: it's perfect for suburban life and frequent travel to places you don't know, but if I still lived in Los Angeles I would have gone with something better for traffic/frequent freeways.

Have had this product for about 4 months now and it has been excellent. Garmin releases regular firmware and other software updates for it.

TomTom has DISABLED FM Transmitting of voice instructions. That's right TomTom's can no longer transmit voice instructions through your car stereo. TomTom turned the feature off for the entire WORLD due to broadcast laws in Hungary and Poland.
Garmin, being completely logical turned off the feature in just those two countries and didn't punish the rest of the world.
TomTom has no disclaimer about this and this site and other retailers continue to falsely advertise this feature.
To be clear:
TomTom DOES NOT have FM transmitting
Garmin DOES HAVE FM transmitting. Garmin deserves great praise for the handling of this issue.

Dear Xxxx,
Thank you for taking the time to contact TomTom Customer Support regarding the FM transmitter no longer working. My name is Jamie. We are always happy to help.
We understand that you are concerned about the recent change to the TomTom application which has disabled FM Transmission of navigation instructions. We deeply regret that it has become necessary for us to implement this change, as our FM Transmission technology was a unique innovation at the time of its release.
TomTom products can be used for travel in many different countries around the world. In an effort to comply with the laws of these countries, we have removed this feature from the product. We are currently working to reinstitute this feature in compliance with these regulations. At this time a date of release is not available. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
Thank you for choosing TomTom for your navigation needs. If you have any further questions or comments, please email or call us at 866-486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM EST or Saturday, 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM EST. Thanks again for writing. At TomTom we believe in showing you the way the easy way.
With Best Regards,

I love this GPS!
I was very surprised that it would sync with my 3 year old LG cell phone, but it did and I am very, very pleased with my nuvi.
I am a factory rep and have to travel to some out of the way places, so I need a dependable cell phone and GPS.
The directions are clear and easy to follow.
I would highly recommend the 765t.

Enjoy this model of Garmin over my last 255W. The addition of the Bluetooth (which by the way works well with my LG cellphone)makes hands free the way to go. Additionally the lane guide really helps when you are in a new area that you have not previously traveled.Garmin Nuvi 765T Vehicle GPS W/4.3" LCD Touchscreen - 8GB SDHC Memory Card - Bean Bag Dashboard Mount - GPS Screen Protectors - 0100071520 BigVALUEInc Accessory Saver Bundle

I travel for a living and use a GPS at least an hour a day. I'm in strange cities all the time, and don't mind spending the money for something that works (get lost in NYC at night when your late for a flight!). I have tried a TomTom 730 and a Navigon 8100T and the Garmin 765T left both in the dust.
1. Fast updates. 3x more refreshes / second than the Navigon, 2x than the TomTom.
2. Simple, fast and reliable SW updates. Plug it in, click the buttons and it works. A couple of seconds and everything updates. First time, everytime - the way it should be.
3. Power through the mount. Power can come through the dash mount, unlike the TomTom. I use a dash mount and never remove it; I just clip in the 765 and go.
4. Excellent brightness. Brightest screen of the 3, perfect in Texas daylight, even with sunglasses on.
5. Best map colors & layout. Obviously Garmin has an ergonomics design team - easiest to read fonts, best map colors for rapid recognition, organized, logical menus. Does *not* feel like a SW engineer cobbled it together.
6. Route help works. Not something I looked for going in, but indispensible after using it.
7. Traffic detector works. Again, not something I was looking for, but addictive and useful!
8. Bluetooth works great! Never thought I'd use it, but it synchs with my iPhone and works great! I now use this instead of my headset in rentals as it's easier to deal with. You can pump it through the FM stereo, if you wish. Also works with my bluetooth stereo headset, which is a bonus. I dropped my music collection on a $15 SD card and it's easier to use than my iPhone (iPhone does not stream bluetooth, this does).
9. POIs are Great. Accurate, well organized, I use them constantly.
10. Easy to backup. Appears as a USB drive (or two, if you have an SD card installed). Drag and drop to your HD. Simple. Effective.
11. Needs Ability to pick a road on detours. This is the only unit that does not let you edit an auto-route by touching a street on the map. They *really* need this. There are times I know a street I want, but can't get the routing engine to take it. They provide a 'custom route' section, but it is too tedious. All I want is 'detour > select on map > touch the road.' Everyone else does it, why not Garmin?
Otherwise, and EXCELLENT GPS. Highly recomended!

Great Product. Easy to setup and use. The only feature I question is the elevation.

Purchased this with high expectations - was VERY disappointed.
Bluetooth: I could hear the caller fine, they could not hear me (voice breaking up).
Lane Assist: Did not show once during a two week trip.
Sign Display: Showed once, but was not for the road I was on.
Directions: Kept putting me in a loop ("Make right turn" -then- "in 200 ft make a U turn" (I made the U turn)-then- "in 300 ft make a U turn", etc. This kept on until I left the area of the loop then it put me on the right track.
This unit was not worth the price. I had the Magellan 4350 before this, I will properly go back to it.
