Navigate With Ease
nüvi 760 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps and millions of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2-D or 3-D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nüvi 760 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. The European version even includes a preloaded safety camera database containing locations of cameras for parts of Europe.
Where Am I?
Keep track of yourself and your car with nüvi 760. Just tap "Where Am I?" to find the closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection. Also see your exact latitude and longitude coordinates. nüvi 760 even remembers where you parked. It automatically marks your position when you remove it from the windshield mount, so you can navigate with nüvi on foot and find your way back to your vehicle. My refurbished Garmin Nuvi 760 has been in use for about a month. The unit arrived in new condition. It was perfect with no signs that it wasn't a new item. Garmin allows access to updated maps for 60 days on refurbished units so I didn't run into the problems associated with some other refurbs. The download was difficult until I discovered you can't download to Google Chrome browser. a quick reload of Windows Explorer solved my problem. I have not been succesful using the Bluetooth feature. I have it set up but thus far have not been able to get it to function properly. Overall I am satisfied and would encourge others to take advantage of the low refurb price.
I went with the Refurb to save money on the 760, and very pleased. It looks new to me, everything wrapped and sealed as if it were new. It came with a fully charged batt, and the latest firmware, so it is definetely a refurb - but cosmetically you would never know it. It only takes 20 sec or so to aquire satellites on a cold start. I'm new to this, so take this review for what its worth. I noticed that the newer streets that are in my area are on the nuvi 760. These are new streets (subdivisions) that are a year or 2 old, so I'm happy with the maps that are preloaded on it. The nuvi is very user freindly and intuitive, the touchscreen make it super easy to use.
I checked around on line for the product before deciding which Garmin nüvi I wanted to buy. This was the third GPS I had purchased and I knew what I wanted in a GPS. After checking price and reviews I ordered it from a company I had dealt with before. Amazon.com had a good price and I trusted there products and companies they use. The product arrived faster then I expected it to. The shipping was fast and arrived in good shape. I am very happy with the order and would recommend them to anyone.
Pros: It simply works. I've compared it to an IPaq 310 and the POI directory is much better. The unit is fast. The theft lock feature is really nice. Detouring is easy. I haven't had a traffic item yet but, it's $60 for lifetime activation. The screen is visible in daylight. The extras are nice such as changing the navagation item. The trip computer is good as well.
Cons: The FM transmitter is virtually useless. So, don't buy it for that. The bluetooth works but, the phone contacts are only available when the bluetooth is active. You have to convert them to favorites. The bluetooth volume is not very loud. It was a pain to pair as well. The current speed is not shown on the main screen when routed and you cannot change the map colors. Also, most of the POIs don't show on the map and if they do, you cannot touch the item to get information.
It is still a great unit but, I couldn't give it 5 stars because of the cons.
After reading many reviews and opinions I bought this unit, and it has worked just as advertised. I am very happy with it. Being in sales and making lots of cold calls it has made me much more productive and its alot safer than trying to read the Thomas guide while driving. I always seem to get a great signal, the maps come up quickly, it stores many points so I can keep the ones I use all the time, or look up recently found points, and even restaurants I dont know the address of(only the name and city).
I have not tried the blue tooth function yet, or loading up MP3's on it. As for listening to the directions or music over a radio frequency, it works well, except that in Los Angeles it seems almost every channel is taken up. This makes it difficult to stay on one channel while driving long distances, but that could be said for any unit you purchase.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this, and my girlfriend who has a Magellin(which she really likes) has been equally impressed with its functionality, big screen and good price point.
