Garmin nüvi 360 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Text-To-Speech

I needed to replace my Garmin Street Pilot which I liked very much. This Nuvi is very similar but with some updated features. The only issue is how challenging it is to get it on and off the windshield mount. Plus, because the windshield mount attachment piece coincides with the charger input, it is sometimes hard to keep the connection between the car charger and Nuvi. Otherwise, it's been a great replacement to my Street Pilot.

I've been using my Nuvi 360 for over a month now. It's sleek. Route Recalculation works great. It speaks street names. There are tons and tons of pre-loaded points of interest.

But it does lack some configurable options. For example, the turn alert comes just before making the turn (0.1-0.2 miles). There's no way that I can change this setting. I find it particularly difficult because I was using a Megellan GPS before this and it used to remind me at 2.0 miles before the turn and one at 0.5 and at 0.2 and the final one just before making the turn.

I am forced to key in my State and City names each and every time I type an address. I have not found any setting that automates this.

Bluetooth works fine although some of the time, the person at the other end keeps complaining of my broken voice (Probably because Garmin's mic picks up a lot of vehicle and traffic noises together with mine). So for those who drive in heavy traffic most of the time and still want to make hands free calling, think again.

I haven't had a chance to try the MP3 player, audio book player and other stuff that comes with it coz I don't find any of them to be that useful.

All in all, it's a GPS that does its job and lives up to the Garmin standards. I would have been much happier if it had more configurable options.

Garmin nüvi 360 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Text-To-Speech

This product was well worth the money and I could not be any more pleased with my purchase. I purchases this GPS to replace my TomTom 1 3rd ed. and so far it has been a very good investment. The Garmin picks up the signal faster and i can always count on accurate directions. Although there is some downfalls like how you cannot change the roads or avoid certian parts of a route like the TomTom lets you. I also just recently took a trip to Canada and had no trouble finding my way around with it. But overall this and all other nuvi's are great products and I highly recomend them to anyone looking to replace or find thier first GPS!

This is an edited comment. I would now give this product 3 stars, but only 3 because it is not easy to use. It all centers on gross deficiencies in the manual and online "how to" information although there may also be performance issues over the long haul.
1. The manual is worst I've seen from an English-speaking company, it is unbelieveable how little useful information it communicates. Garmin routinely uses initials as if everyone knows that they mean. It uses an accronym (initials) on a screen with no definition anywhere on the device. When you go to the manual the initials are in the index but the pages referenced don't even use the initials, or define them or give a clear indication to a non-techie or newbie of what they're talking about. You have to search online to find out what the initials stand for.

Another example is setting the Garmin 360 to announce street names. Yes, the Garmin 360 can announce street names but good luck figuring out how to do it because their manual and online support sucks. How to set the Garmin 360 to announce street names (posted so you don't have to wait 17 minutes to get through to customer support): You control this through the LANGUAGE setting. You usually don't see the correct option when you do set up because what comes up first is American English -- so you choose it and don't scroll down or press options again so you don't discover there are additional American English options, two of which will give you spoken street names. To fix this after setup and have spoken street names you need to touch the little wrench on the right side of the main page, then on the next screen go to system (looks like gears). On the next screen, the second line has a picture of lips and a line showing the language. Touch the line across from the lips. Your language options will include American English and among the sub-options will be "American English Jack (TTS)" and "American English Jill (TTS)". If you choose the first option a male voice will tell you street names when you need to turn. If you choose "American English Jill (TTS)" a female voice will tell you street names.

TTS means "Text To Speech". Remember what I said about the manual and using initials as if everyone knows what they mean? This is another example of that problem. Three tech-saavy people tried to figure this out before we called Garmin and sat on hold for 17 minutes. It was a quick fix from a nice tech guy once we got thru but this is a simple question that should have been answered by their manual. It wasn't. Manuals are written for people who don't know the product, not to inspire/market those who are into the product or field.

2. Concern: it thinks I'm on the city streets below interstate flyovers as I go over and tries to re-route me; this could be a serious performance issue but I need more time with the unit to know.

3. Concern: as some others have noted it flipped to an old destination while I was driving and began rerouting me there in an unfamiliar city; I suspect a touchpad issue but this is something to watch.

4. the technology is old: the antenna is old tech, it flips up.

5. Plus: the windshild and dash attachments are good and beat the competition.

Once the learning curve is tolerated and the unit is figured out, it seems to do the job. I think it will be fine but they don't do themselves a favor by educating their customer on how to use the product. Most negative reviews are from people who have encountered problems I've also encountered and who would be happier with a decent manual.

This GPS is my first one. So far it is good enough for me. I havent used it on any long distance trip yet so I'm not sure how it will do but I think it will do what it needs to for me(just get to the destination!). It seems basic and simple and I have had no problems with it. Shipping was fast and free!

This is the first portable GPS I've used, however I have used Marine Garmin GPS units for fishing and find their products work well and are dependable.
I was amazed how well this little unit works and would definately recommend it for anyone not wanting to spend lots of money. And is perfect for first time users.

I've had this unit for two years and it has become an essential part of my driving. I also purchased the traffic module and it has changed my life for the better. The unit is very easy to use and surprisingly good, at least in my area, of getting me where I want to go as quickly and painlessly as possible. The "detour" feature is particularly handy as even in the worst traffic, there's usually a better alternate route.

A couple of issues: First, it's not bright enough; it's useless in the convertible with the top down. Second, it's not loud enough; even with the top up it's very hard to hear the voice prompts over road noise and you can forget it if you are listening to music. Finally, the routing algorithm used for surface streets is bonehead stupid. The thing seems to assume that you will hit all traffic lights as green and that there is no such thing as stop signs. Beware of routes through town, you'll get there alright but the time required to get there can be off by a factor of two or more.

The biggest issue appears to be the latest firmware release. The unit worked flawlessly for the whole time I had it. Then, a few months ago, I noticed a firmware update was available and I downloaded that along with a map upgrade. This new firmware is a disaster. The unit hangs, it crashes, it loses track of satellites. It does really stupid routing things like routing me through Los Angeles to get from San Jose to Santa Cruz (700 miles instead of 30). If you get one of these, I'd advise against upgrading the firmware.

This product works pretty good. I will generally get you to the address of interest, but it may not be the most efficient means.
I give it an average rating because the points of interest feature is terrible. The database is filled with non-existent destinations and incorrect information.

I got this product in two days from amazon, with free super saver shipping. Worked straight off the box, easy directions with street names spoken clearly.

It came with 2008 maps, during product registration a link was provided to the updated 2009 maps. Downloading, extracting and installing the 1.92 GB datafile took nearly 2 hours over an 8Mbps connection with a powerful desktop. So be prepared to spend some time doing this.

Cons: The product looks flimsy, the suction mount could be better designed.
