I've had this for 6 months, and I must say I like it! I've owned Tom Tom's, mio's, used a magellan and won't go back! The screen is excellent, nice size, very quick satellite acquisition, and the best routing by far (the main reason we buy these, right?).

I always thought 4.3 screens were unnecessary, but its so nice when you are turning to see more of the map in the direction you are turning!

Also, I believe the Garmin's are the only GPS's that tell you which side of the street your destination is one, AND usually routes you so that its on your right side. When you are in a city you don't know, this is a must-have feature in my opinion.

Also, POIs are very good, only occasionally does it not find the store I'm looking for.

The other thing I wanted to add was that I was frustrated finding a case that was slim, pocketable, inexpensive, and fits this like a glove. I was psyched to finally find something at Staples that fits it perfectly (for $7 no less). Check out the Case Logic JDS-6 usb shuttle. I know this isn't listed as a gps case, but it works perfectly for this unit.

Also consider getting a vent mount for this, its so nice to have the gps right at your fingertips instead of reaching forward to the windshield.

I have an older Garmin V that I have used for about 7 years. The old Garmin is great for driving around provided you plan ahead and update the maps to show where you're traveling. If you forget, you miss critical detail and you'd better have good local maps. I still have that unit and use it mostly in the woods due to its limited memory.

So on a recent trip to Sacramento, I decided to upgrade to a newer unit that had more memory. The 205W worked so well out of the box I was a little disappointed. The tech on these is so simple now it's almost 'boring' to use. It navigated rapidly and accurately and provided clear directions within minutes. Most amazing to me was how well it picked up satellites compared to the Garmin V. Extremely fast and even worked resting in the space between the seats of our rental car. Pretty cool.

I'm not sure you can go wrong with the 205W. I've been a GPS geek for about 10 years and we use them at work.

The 205W is intuitive enough for most folks to use right out of the box and the routing is good. By 'good', I mean it's fast and accurate. If you accidentally drive by something it quickly recalculates a route for you.

The screen is nice and bright too, even in daylight. It is wise to bring along the supplied 12 volt cigarette lighter plug as it seems to last for very short times on battery alone and there is no way to replace the battery or bring along a spare. Fortunately, you can charge it off a mini-usb port from your computer too so it's not a big issue but if you're the forgetful sort, perhaps a replaceable battery model is better for you.

This is not a unit you'd really use in the back-country. It's designed for highway use and works great for that. There are other more costly units that more effectively marry the needs of sportsman and the occasional traveler.

It does nicely link up with Google Earth via your computer (you'll need to latest free version of Google Earth). It does not appear to provide a real-time GPS position signal to your computer (my 7 year old Garmin V does though) so if you're looking for that capability this doesn't appear to be a solution for that specific problem. However, if you are traveling and wish to save the addresses / places that you visited it easily imports that information and it's pretty cool to see those points overlaid on Google Earth.

You can add an SD card and put photos and stuff on it like you might on a USB memory stick but I don't think many people use that sort of capability.

You can easily download different icons to show your position. I downloaded the tank. The tank rules. It's a gimmick but it shows the folks at Garmin have a sense of humor.

You can view your route in the traditional overhead routing or 3D; both work really well.

The provided suction cup mount works very well. It uses a ball mount that allows for infinite positioning. If you want a really rugged mount I'd strongly recommend the Ram-Mount systems available online. I bought one for my ATV and it's amazingly stout and simple. I digress.

If your primary need for a GPS is a very simple, plain and effective unit for over the road travel, this will exceed your needs and your expectations in an easy to use package.

I received this unit as a gift for the 08 holidays, at the time it was priced at one seventy five plus shipping, now at one sixty with free shipping it is a better deal than ever.

I wouldn't recommend choosing the 255w over this. it's not worth the forty dollar difference for only text-to-speech and no other features.

It turns on and finds locations very fast, the menu is not blazing responsive but gets the job done, and it has a good amount of POI's. Unit is sleek and the window mount is sturdy. It does fairly well at giving directions in the city, but it will on occasion try to lead you into a 1 way street from the wrong end or not be specific enough with finding smaller places that are "a hole in the wall." Hopefully your common sense will prevail. :) Fortunately, it reroutes very fast.

This unit is great, unless you plan extensive traveling in europe. Don't pay for bluetooth connectivity in a gps, the sound quality is never that great compared to more affordable standalone hardware. Not sure if the 265w is worth it, although the traffic service is nice. This unit does a great job of predicting arrival times regardless.

For the price and features, with the almight garmin to back it up, this unit can't be beat. No regrets here.

For the money, this is a GREAT gadget!! It actually has more and does more than I'd bargained for!! The ONLY drawback .. I THOUGHT it would name the streets. It doesn't and that gets confusing when it tells you to turn left (or right) and there are more than 2 options!!! The wide screen is fantastic. Very easy to see day or night. I have used Garmin GPS units in my job for a number of years and they always come through for me. They are pretty user friendly, which is what I want/need!! I have been wanting to get a portable, highway type GPS for my vehicle for several years but didn't want to pay the price. Nowadays, it's not so easy to stop at a gas station and ask directions ... no one knows where anything is, anyway!! I love watching how the speed limit changes on the screen as I drive past a new speed limit sign. It's almost magic!! I am very happy with my Garmin portable navigation system! (One review I read was very helpful in that the author stated the auto converter DOES come with the unit!!)

I received this unit as a Christmas gift just before leaving on a family Christmas roadtrip. (4400 miles, 11 states, 18 days). Because we opened gifts right before walking out the door, I waited until the next morning to get the unit out and figure it out. While the rest of the family packed up in the motel, my 9 year old son and I wen to gas up the Suburban, before I got to the gas station, my son had it set up and navigating. As I gassed up I set the motel as our destination and it navigated the convoluted route effortlessly.

Over the course of the trip I was amazed at how well this Unit worked and how easy it was to use. There were a couple of instances where streets had changed and the maps were not updated (changes were 4 years ago) nothing we couldn't handle. Also, we found motels and fast food places that were not in the Garmin's system. It worked through mountains, deserts, plains, urban areas (Las Vegas, Salt Lake City), and desolate areas (Extraterestrial Highway in Northern NV). Worked great on the whole trip...hardly looked at my road atlas. (my wife would call that miraculous!!)

This is my first GPS. It cost about $125. It did everything asked of it. Really a great low cost unit. Sound is good, touch screeen works well and it can be set either for shortest distance or fastest route. A drag and drop route modification would be great, but I assume that is available in a higher end model.

It doesn't do bluetooth or MP3s or play through the car radio....but I don't need or want those features.

I would like to update the maps, but looks like that costs as much as the unit cost originally!!

I still give it 4 stars. I wold have given it 5 stars, but it is my first GPS and not much to compare it to.

I bought this as an addition to my Vista. Which is a great handheld GPS, but a small screen for in the car. The nuvi is a very good automobile GPS. It is easy to use, with a nice display and sound.

The picture viewer is very poor. It is slow and doesn't use the whole height, so the pictures are small.

It also doesn't allow you to save routes. Plenty of storage room to allow it so I am not sure why you can't. Makes it a pain if you don't like the selected route. You have to set it up everytime. This is why I didn't rate it 5 stars.

I found the price for the GPS to be competitive and the product has met all of our expectations. The delivery time was very responsive and we will use Amazon again for our purchases.

I am very happy with the Garmin nuvi 205W. I recently went on a 2500 mile trip and the nuvi performed flawlessly. It relieved all the stress and pressure about being in the appropriate lane when approaching a designated turn and for finding out of the way locations. I don't know how I did without this valuable tool for so long. I reccomend this product without reservation. Completely satisfied. Thank you Garmin.

This is basically a good product with some room for improvment. It's basically an overall good unit.
